CHALKPIT RECORDS DEVELOPING THE ISLAND’S MUSIC SCENE

Isle of Wight-based independent music label Chalkpit Records will this winter be hosting a range of new live music promotional nights at the Island’s hub for creative arts, starting with 2 showcase shows on Friday 4th November and Friday 2nd December.

The events will take place at Quay Arts in Newport, with the key focus of developing, promoting and creating live music opportunities for Isle of Wight and South Coast’s growing number of emerging artists.

Chalkpit Records was founded back in May 2015 by Silas Gregory, a second year Commercial Music Degree student at Platform One. The label aims to offer band management, marketing and promotion, distribution, merchandise solutions and hosting live music nights through the year. Chalkpit Records have been working on a number of exciting projects with emerging artists, with the label already releasing a handful of songs to their growing catalogue and is soon to release its first E.P with Indie band Nakamarra.

Silas said:

“The Isle of Wight has always been a really exciting place for the creation of music with new artists popping up and starting most months of the year. However actually getting the opportunity to play ‘live original music’ on the island is few and far between.

“Playing to a live audience is vital to any emerging artists, especially to those on the island trying to break it across the pond. We feel by developing the music scene right here on the Isle of Wight, will give artists the platform they need to take their projects to the next step.

“We are excited to be bringing a range of high quality nights to The Quay Arts Centre, Newport, packed with the island & South Coasts most exciting artists. We hope these nights will only encourage more people to attend & support original live music on the Isle of Wight & inspire people to pick up an instrument & give it ago themselves.”

Friday 4th November at 20:00 will see the likes of top Island psych rock acts Bully Bones and The Orders play with special guests Melt Dunes. Tickets cost just £5 nd can be bought via http://www.quayarts.org/event/chalkpit-records-presents/ or on the door.

On Friday 2nd December rostered indie 5 piece Nakamarra will headline their first ever show as they release their debut 4 track E.P on the same day which will be available physically on the night, & will be supported by Southampton based Electronic duo ‘UHURU’ & Singer-Songwriter ‘Ever’.
