Alan Cawdell, Ian Morey and Bob Mortlock have taken the win against a Bournemouth triple to secure their place in the Men’s National Over 50’s triple final.
The Island side went up against Cliff Higgins, Lee Croad and Chris Daniels from Bournemouth in the area semi-final of the Men’s National Over 50’s triples.
Mortlock’s threesome got off to the best possible start and led 10 shots to 0 after the first 5 ends. The visitors looked on their way back into the match as they reduced the deficit to 6 shots with plenty of ends left to play.
From that point the Islanders upped their game, scoring 8 shots without reply to run out victors by 20 shots to 6. In the area final they take on Barry Starks triple from the Victory Club.
Gay Allen has won her way through to the area final of the National Over 60’s Ladies Singles.
Having recorded a 21 shots to 16 quarter-final win against Julie Hudson of Bournemouth Indoor Bowls Club, Gay took on Joy Travers of Palmerston in an away tie in the semi-final.
In a good match Allen came home victorious by 21 shots to 15. In the area final she will take on Lyn Howard of Bournemouth on the 15th March. The game is to be played at Palmerston.
In the Ladies area National Triples final, Allen will be joined by Anne Bernard and Pauline Proud will compete against Julie Hudson’s trio from Bournemouth in a match to be played at Five Rivers on the 1st March.
Darren Griffith took on Tony Farrington of Palmerston at home in the area semi-final of the Men’s National two wood competition.
In the very early stages there was little between the 2 players but playing well Griffith soon took command. Farrington never looked like getting back in to the game and Griffith went through to the final where he will play Peter Ward of Five Rivers at East Dorset on the 1st March.
The club took on 2 home friendly fixtures against Cotswold Bowling Club last week. Taking full advantage of their home advantage resulted in conclusive victories in both encounters.
The first match resulted in a 121 shots to 53 win with the visitors winning on only 1 of the 5 rinks. Malcolm Addison, Sandra Aldridge, John Hutchinson and Barry Rodwell were the top rink recording a 34 shots to 4 success. Other rinks won by 23 , 19 and 3 shots respectively. The away teams winning rink came home 7 shots to the good.
The follow up game resulted in a win by 120 shots to 58. The visitors were defeated on all 5 rinks.
Best win for the home side was a 31 shots to 11 success for Angela West, Barbara Moye, Alan Davis and Roy Jemson. Carol Jones rink won by 15 shots and there were 10 shot victories for the rinks skipped by Barry Rodwell and by John Carrett. Shirley Stubbs quartet came home 7 shots to the good.
