A boat that was cut free from its mooring in Yarmouth could pose a danger to shipping on the Solent, Police have warned.
Hampshire Constabulary have issued an alert to Islanders stating that a 15ft cabin boat has been set free from its mooring at Yarmouth Harbour and is now likely to be adrift somewhere around the coastline of the Isle of Wight.
The boat, which belongs to a local sea cadet group, was set for the scrap heap but was cut free alongside a number of other boats before that could happen. The other boats have since been recovered.
PSCO Steve Hull has said:
“[We’re] now worried as it is dangerous for other ships if it’s out in the shipping lane, as it’s quite a heavy boat and doesn’t have an engine. If seen please call Harbour Master”.
