The next production of Bembridge Little Theatre Club is ‘Nunsense – The Mega-Musical’ – a Nun Story with quite a difference!

Having been forced to give up their missionary work in the south of France, the Little Sisters of Hoboken now run Mount St Helen’s school. Unfortunately, their cook recently served some tainted vichyssoise soup for lunch with the result that 52 members of the order died of botulism. Luckily not everyone had soup for lunch so 14 nuns were spared.

The remaining sisters set about raising money for burial of the poor unfortunates, and thinking they had raised enough, Mother Superior bought a DVD player for the convent. This resulted in a shortfall, which meant only 48 could be buried. She decided to stage a ‘talent show’ to raise the extra cash needed and, in the meantime, the last 4 sisters were kept on ice (in the convent freezer). Then an unannounced inspection by the local health department was sprung on them!

So all hands to the decks! There are a range of songs to suit all tastes and some wonderful dance routines. Humour and pathos. Something for everyone.  Each nun has a back story. For example, Reverend Mother (played by Libby Pike) grew up in the circus. She vowed to be a nun to save her parents who were in danger of drowning in the Thames whilst tightrope walking.

Directed by Andrew Jenner who always has tremendous attention to detail. Steve Burton is Musical Director, supported by a 3-piece band, and choreography by Ruth Anderson, this production promises to be an exciting and fun event for the audience.
