Islanders may have noticed unusual looking vehicles travelling across the Isle of Wight recently, which Island Echo has been able to confirm as belonging to the technology giant, Apple.
The brand new vans are understood to be collating data for the advancement of the Apple Maps service across the UK, with indications of a service to compete with Google’s Streetview.
Apple is driving vehicles around the world to collect data which will be used to improve Apple Maps. Some of this data will be published in future Apple Maps updates.
On Apple’s own website they confirm that the vehicle will be covering a variety of areas, including the Isle of Wight, throughout July and August.
