Two productions from The Royal Ballet will be screened live at Ventnor Arts Club on Tuesday 26th January at 19:15. The pairing is made up of virtuoso showpiece Rhapsody and the ravishing The Two Pigeons described by the Financial Times as “the happiest of dance events…a perfect work of balletic art”.
The delightful double-bill by Founder Choreographer of The Royal Ballet, Frederick Ashton opens with the celebratory Rhapsody danced by Principals Natalia Osipova and Steven McRae. The rapturous pas de deux and dazzling solos still present a thrilling challenge for today’s generation of stars.
Following this is the sublime two-act ballet, The Two Pigeons. Charming, flirtatious and full of gentle humour the work is danced by British Principal Lauren Cuthbertson and Russian Vadim Muntagirov. The story follows an artist in Paris who abandons his faithful love for an exotic and mysterious Gypsy Girl, only to realise the error of his ways – a tender and touching tale that even stars two live pigeons!
Presented for cinema by Darcey Bussell the double-bill will be a treat for Ashton fans and newcomers alike who can see live from Covent Garden the work of “one of the greatest classical choreographers of the 20th century” (New York Times).
