On Friday 20th November, internationally acclaimed Little Toby Walker, hailed as a roots and blues music finger style guitar virtuoso, is coming to the Island to perform and lead a workshop at Ventnor Arts Club.
Walker blends the styles of blues, ragtime, country, bluegrass, rock and old time jazz into his own unique style. His passion for traditional American music drove him to leave an apartment crammed full of recordings, books and instruments for the Mississippi Delta, Virginia and the Carolinas where he tracked down some of the more obscure but immensely talented music makers of an earlier era.
He learned directly from Eugene Powell, James “Son” Thomas, Etta Baker, and R.L Burnside, among others.
On the Friday evening at 17:30, Island guitar players have a unique opportunity to attend a workshop – ‘Fingerpicking the blues’. If you’re lucky enough to grab one of just ten places available, you’ll learn how to build on traditional blues styles by adding new and exciting licks, chords, bass patterns and more – breathing new life into your playing.
Later on Friday night, at 21:00, Toby will perform and share tales from his travels.
Tickets for the workshop and the concert are available now online at www.ventnorartsclub.com or by phone on 01983 857060.
