Island-based speaker, comedian and presenter, Alex Watts, has been announced as the host of the inaugural Spectrum – The Autism Festival, which is set to take place on 27th April 2019.
Spectrum – The Autism Festival will be a brand new music and sensory festival, with everyone involved having a link with ASD. The all-inclusive event will be run in association with 2 Island charities; NAS (National Autistic Society) IOW branch and Ability Dogs 4 Young People IW, both of which do absolutely fantastic work for kids and adults alike on the Autism Spectrum.
The County Showground at Northwood will host the event next April.
Organiser Nicola Mcintosh has said:
“We are so excited to have Alex on board as host for the festival.
“There was only one name on the list when we were looking for a host. We’ve seen his work at Island Con and what he has done across the world with his friend Dan Jones, another Youtuber, and we just knew he’d be perfect for what we have planned.”
Alex Watts, who is busy preparing for hosting duties at Island Con in October, said:
“Spending as much time as I do travelling the world, advocating for folks on spectrum – I am beyond stoked to have been asked to host Spectrum Festival right here on my doorstep.”
“Having ADHD myself and growing up in an age where it was considered a hindrance, I devoted myself to educating, motivating and being a better example for the diagnosis than was previously available.”
More information about the festival is set to be announced in the coming weeks, but in the meantime you can visit the official Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/spectrumfestivaliow.
Nicola continued:
“I am so excited about this, it is taking up all of my life with lots of planning, but it will be worth it and we look forward to seeing you all at the event next April.”
