AFC Wootton comprehensively demolished a Seaview side lacking a recognised goalkeeper by 9 goals at Wootton Rec yesterday (Saturday). Seaview did well to limit Wootton to a half time 2-goal lead. Harry Collier opened the scoring for Wootton with a tap in on the quarter hour mark (1-0). The 2nd goal came from Scott Barron after half an hour, who scored through a free kick to provide the home side with a 2-goal advantage at the half time break. Half time: AFC Wootton 2-0 Seaview The 2nd half saw Wootton succeed break down a Seaview side that had stubbornly defended in the 1st half. Harris Payne got the home side’s 1st 2nd half goal from the edge of the 6-yard box in the 46th minute (3-0).
James Cheek then added a 4th for Wootton with a shot from the middle of the penalty area in the 52nd (4-0). 2 minutes later, Payne bagged his brace with a tap in at the far post (5-0). Wootton’s 6th came in the 57th minute, courtesy of a James Cheek header (6-0). On the hour mark, Seaview changed keepers, with Jordan Westood taking occupancy between the sticks, but the goals kept flowing for the home side.
Dave Renouf added a 7th for Wootton in the 74th minute with a strike from the edge of the penalty area (7-0) Renouf was unlucky not to score again when his shot bounced off the crossbar, following which Shay Dixon hit the upright. The final goals of the game came courtesy of James Gunningham, who poked the ball under the Seaview keeper in the 83rd minute (8-0), and Scott Barron, who bagged his brace a minute from the final whistle (9-0).

“Obviously, very pleased with the win and the clean sheet. Nice to get some goals too. We knew Seaview would not make it easy and fair play to them, they kept going. We kept going and kept creating chances and with the players I have, I knew we’d score goals. “Even on a pitch that cut up, we kept playing some decent football. We will keep going until the end and see where it takes us. We’ll be pushing to finish the season as high as possible. “The squad we now have is full of quality and it’s exciting times at the club. I’m very proud to be in charge here.”

Cowes Sports Reserves 2-3 Vectis 2nd-placed Vectis narrowly overcame the Yachtsmen at Westwood Park by the best of 5 goals. The Vectis scorers were Joe Houghton, Ben Cutts and Jasmie Barratt. Dan Pearson and James Turner were on target for Cowes Ventnor 4-2 Shanklin Ventnor have climbed to 3rd spot in Division 1 by beating last season’s champions Shanklin thanks to a brace from Emerson Tattersall and further goals from Jack Barsdell and Rob Gee. Fin Lloyd and Cory Sanderson were the Shanklin scorers Unfortunately, Ventnor captain Emerson Tattersall broke his cheek bone and eye socket during the game after a clash of heads. Osborne Coburg 9-4 Newport Reserves Mark Taylor scored 4 goals, Carl Phillipson bagged a brace, and Liam Sumpter, Nick Payne and Jack Davies grabbed a goal apiece as Osborne Coburg beat Newport Reserves in a high scoring game. The half time score was 2-2, with the Port having twice taken the lead. East Cowes Sports Reserves 2-0 Bembridge Reserves Goals from Josh Richardson and Dan Skinner saw ECS overcome Bembridge Reserves at the GKN Sports Ground to reach the semi-final of the Junior A cup.
