A goal 5 minutes from full time from substitute Adam Voller saw East Cowes Vics take all 3 points against Whitchurch United in North Hampshire.
Vics were the only Isle of Wight side in Wessex League action this Saturday (28th October), with Cowes Sports and Newport both having their games postponed because of waterlogged pitches.
The East Cowes side were bolstered by the signing of former Cowes Sports favourite, Gareth Bricknell. However, they have lost attacking midfielder Harri Catania, who has signed for rivals Newport after a short spell at the club.
Manager Alex Smith said after the game:
“Whitchurch were competitive and tough to break down, especially on a wet and boggy pitch which deteriorated as the game went on.
“We’re delighted with the result, it was very much a case of having to be relentless and grind out the win in tough conditions.
“In the end, we left it late but were good value for the win and, in truth, should have put the game to bed in the 1st half.
“Jordan Chapman was man of the match with an outstanding performance, constantly driving tempo and running the game from midfield.”

The Vics boss described Adam Voller’s goal in the following words:
“Another searing run from Harrison Yates, who had a superb game at left back, saw him cut inside, played a tidy one-two with Gareth Bricknell around the full back and coolly slotted the ball across goal to meet the well timed run of Adam Voller, who finished very tidily.
Full time: Whitchurch United 0-1 East Cowes Victoria
East Cowes Vics: Ram, Snow (Young ’77), Yates, Berry, Chase, Chapman, Boyd-Kerr, Coode (Nash ’77), Bricknell (Newbold ’88), Reynolds (Mumford ’65), Neale (Voller ’60)
Vics’ win sees the East Cowes side rise 2 places to 9th in the Division 1 table, 5 points behind Millbrook in the play off positions but with 1 game in hand.
