Ad Lib Theatre are back at Northwood House this month with a fresh offering of outdoor Shakespeare to delight both lovers of the Bard’s work and newcomers alike.
Following their sell-out run of Hamlet last year, this time they are delving into the realms of comedy with The Comedy of Errors; it’s the tale of 2 sets of twins, separated at birth and growing up in two master-and-servant pairs.
So when Antipholus and Dromio of Syracuse arrive in Ephesus, they can’t understand why everyone knows their names, why they’ve suddenly gained wives, or why they suddenly seem to owe people money – what results is one of Shakespeare’s most chaotic comedies, featuring all his best-known plot devices, including mistaken identities, a shipwreck, a love triangle, and even a swordfight.
Directed by Maureen Sullivan and Simon Lynch, featuring Emily Scotcher, Joel Leverton, Patrick Barry and Philip Barker as the two sets of twins, and with a supporting cast of well-known Island actors, this is a show not to be missed.
The performances are open-air at Northwood House, on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th June at 18:30 (gates open at 17:30), and on Sunday 25th June at 14:30 (gates open at 13:30), and will go ahead outdoors unless rain or high winds prevail, in which case they will be moved inside. Audiences are invited to bring their own chairs, blankets and picnics.
Tickets are £10 (admission only) for adults, £8 (admission only) for students and children, or £15 for admission plus a welcome drink.
