An Isle of Wight Council officer is to shave off his hair to raise awareness and money for MacMillan Cancer Support under its ‘Brave the Shave’ event.
Ian Goddard, who works as an employment support officer for No Barriers, which is based at The Adelaide Resource Centre in Ryde, will lose his life-long locks on Tuesday 18th August.
He is hoping to raise over £1000 for charity and he has set up a donation page at https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/ian-goddard/.
He said:
“I heard of Brave the Shave and also my colleague Marion Tanner holds a MacMillan coffee morning every year at the centre, so I wanted to raise more funds for MacMillan.
“It also got me thinking about how cancer impacts lives because I have friends and family who have had it or have been affected by it.
“My grandfather died of throat cancer, a friend had testicular cancer and two friends had breast cancer. It was a no-brainer to do my bit for charity.”
Ian’s hair will be shaved off at 14:15 on Tuesday 18th August by staff in the on-site salon at The Adelaide.
He is also expecting a large audience as many of his colleagues are sponsoring the haircut.
