Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has welcomed £800,000 of government money to help install full fibre in Island public buildings and nearby homes and businesses.
Chancellor Philip Hammond announced the cash boost in his Spring Statement and the Isle of Wight is 1 of 9 areas to successfully bid for the third wave of the Local Full Fibre Networks Challenge Fund.
The money will enable next-generation full fibre connections to key public buildings, and their surrounding area.
Bob has said:
“This announcement very much keeps on track the Island’s full fibre ambitions and will help attract businesses, employment and prosperity.
“It means the Island can start to grow its network using this money and reduce the cost of connecting other homes and businesses to fibre by using this infrastructure as a starting point.
“This is great news and a real boost to the Island’s infrastructure.”
