A 6-year-old girl has died in hospital following an incident in East Cowes this morning (Wednesday), in which a 44-year-old man has also died.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police and paramedics were called to a property on Cromwell Avenue at 10:10 where a child was found unconscious and in a life-threatening condition.
According to witnesses, the girl was carried to the ambulance before being dashed to St Mary’s Hospital under Police escort.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics and doctors, the young girl was sadly pronounced dead a short while later.
It has been confirmed that a 44-year-old man – believed to be the girl’s father – was found dead inside the property by Police. His body was removed at around 18:30.
The bodies of two dogs were also found inside the property.
Detectives have launched an investigation as forensic investigators examine and photograph the scene, however no one else is currently being sought in connection with either death.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“At this stage we are treating this as an isolated incident and we would like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk.
“We will have a police presence at the address overnight. We would like to thank residents for their patience as we deal with this incident.
“Formal identification procedures are ongoing and we will not be in a position to confirm the names of the deceased until these are complete.
“Specialist officers are supporting the family.”
