It was an unlucky day for Isle of Wight teams in the Hampshire Cups with only 1 team – Carisbrooke United – making the 4th Round of the competition on Saturday (3rd December).
In the Hampshire Trophy …
Last season’s finalists Shanklin went down to Warash Wasps on penalties after drawing 3-3, despite Wayne Newnham scoring a hat-trick for the Seasiders.
Brading Town – who won the Trophy 2 years ago – struggled with availability issues, losing 4-0 at Bournemouth Sports after conceding 3 goals in the opening 5 minutes.
Vectis – with 5 1st team players unavailable – lost 1-5 to Locks Heath at Cowes Enterprise college with Darren Wood scoring the consolation goal for Vectis.
In the Hampshire Vase …
Congratulations to Carisbrooke United, who were the only Isle of Wight side to make the 4th round of the competition after beating Bishop Waltham Dynamos 0-3, courtesy of goals from Charlie Richardson, Tony Potts, and an own goal.
In Isle of Wight Division 1 …
West Wight have moved up to 3rd place in the table after beating Oakfield at Slade Road. Casey Tyrell, George Saunders, Louie Thomas, and Gareth Bricknell were the players on target for West Wight.
Cowes Sports Reserves have dropped to 4th after drawing 1-1 with East Cowes Sports in an ‘El Classicowes’ derby at Westwood Park. Matt Nowak was on target for the Yachtsmen.
Bembridge and Binstead drew 3-3 in an entertaining game at Steyne Park. Michael Brown scored a brace for Bembridge with Josh Field also on target. The Binstead goals came from Cian McGee (X2) and Reon Obeyesekere.
