Plans to demolish the former Yarmouth Police Station and build 4 homes in its place have been approved by the Isle of Wight Council, despite objections from locals.
Last week the decision was taken to approve the proposed redevelopment of the site some 12 months after the planning application was submitted.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police officers in the West Wight town moved to the nearby Yarmouth Harbour office almost 3 years ago. Since then, the Police Station in the High Street has remained empty.
Yarmouth Town Council had objected to the plans with concerns over the height of the proposed buildings, the existing Conservation Area and the lack of a commercial element – points all shared by members of the public.
Work to transform the site must begin within 3 years.
