A joint operation between local Police and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), to target vehicle and traffic offences, was carried out on the Isle of Wight on Thursday.
During the day, a total of 28 vehicles were seized for licence, insurance and tax offences. In addition, 21 fixed penalty notices were issued for mobile phone use, not using a seatbelt and a range of other offences.
Officers took up position on John Street, Ryde and Fairlee Road, Newport.
Meanwhile, the community safety van recorded 21 excess speed offences in the Ryde area. Those drivers will be summoned to court.
A 50-year-old man from Shanklin was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He has since been released under investigation.
Sergeant Sam Warne from the neighbourhood policing team said:
“There is a clear link between these types of offences and the potential for other forms of criminal activity.
“This was a very successful day of activities and the offences detected highlight the value of joint working.”

These illegal drivers were not tricked into driving, they do it on a daily basis with total disregard to other road users.
Well done. The number caught using phones while driving, could point to the reason why there are so many single vehicle ‘accidents’, and some where the phone user has hit others !!
I totally agree with Sam Warne’s statement that these types of offences show potential for other forms of criminal activity. But Sam’s colleagues cannot agree as ‘the’ neighbourhood policing team (no mention there which team Sam belongs to) do not respond to emails and contrary to statements on their site Hampshire Police do not respond to enquiries either (RSF-777-19-4444-RSF).
It would be unfair to say all reported information is ignored though. Sometimes such information is used to tip off the perpetrator rather than the inconvenient summonses mentioned………

You get a court summons now for a simple speeding offence? What happened to 3 points and a fine? Maybe Im out of touch but seems like a lot of work for a few MPH over the limit
