The Isle of Wight continues to push physical activity and is now introducing more and more challenges and races for people to take place in.
This year will also see the Festival of Running, which will include eight days of racing or running activities for people to take part in. This is not only for seasoned runners, but also for families and anyone else to enjoy. There will also be a number of workshops taking place, such as a Glutes and Core strengthening class and a hypopressives workshop to name just a few. Here we cover a number of the different events, so you can get involved yourself.
- Duver Dash
The first event is the Duver Dash, which will be taking place on Sunday 24th May. This will be taking place in Duver, St Helens and will be a 5k course and 1km for juniors.
- 10k Multi Terrain Run
This 10k social run will be taking place on Monday 25th May around the Wootton Bridge countryside. It is available for all with shorter distances available on the day.
- 10k Run
This is another social run that will be taking place on Tuesday 26th May. It will be a 10k run that starts and finishes at the West Wight Sports and Community centre.
- Free Fun Sociable Run
This is being ran by a Newport running group, known as the ‘Love Running Tuesday Nighters’. It is also an open event and will be a 20 minute run around Newport. This will also be taking place on Tuesday 26th May.
- West Wight Family Olympics
This will be a family run event, with the aim to push people to be more active. It will involve teams taking part in multi-skilled events, with gold, silver and bronze medals being awarded. It will be taking place on Thursday 28th May at the West Wight Sports and Community centre. This also comes in the year of the Olympic games that is taking place in Tokyo, Japan. - Freshwater 5k
This event will be taking place on Saturday 30th May and is open for all looking to complete the 5k event. The route passes through the stunning countryside of Freshwater and West Wight. The event will be starting at the West Wight Sports and Community centre.
- Needles Half Marathon
One for the more experienced runners is the Needles Half Marathon that will be taking place on Sunday 31st May. This is one of the toughest half marathons in the country, due to its hilly course. The event will also be starting at the West Wight Sports and Community centre.
