A weekly crew training exercise turned into a real life rescue for Yarmouth RNLI on Thursday night.
The All Weather Lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard with assisting a yacht whose propeller had fouled on mooring lines off Newtown Creek.
The Severn-class lifeboat was quickly on scene and a bow tow was established to hold the vessel in position against the ebbing tide. Meanwhile, the smaller Y-Boat was launched and the volunteer crew onboard were able to sever the entangled lines and free the prop.
The yacht was then towed to the safety of Yarmouth harbour, with the lifeboat arriving back at station by 20:45.
