A road that is being used as a cut through for motorists avoiding the Staplers Road closure in Newport is to be closed itself for 6 weeks, it has been confirmed.
Mayfield Drive, which connects the top of Staplers Road to Fairlee Road through residential streets, is being shut from 7th March as part of the ongoing Staplers Road water main replacement scheme.
The news means that motorists will either have to use Furrlongs – which takes traffic to the other side of Newport – or stick to the main Fairlee Road, which is expected to become busier as a result of this latest closure.
Mayfield Drive is being used by savvy drivers trying to get into or through Newport from the East Wight, but journey times are expected to be made that much longer now.
