27-year-old Jamie Downing from Oakvale in Ryde has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for possessing a manual on how to abuse children, as well as possessing 5,386 illegal images.
Downing, who admitted looking at the images for over a decade, was handed the immediate prison sentence by Judge Hetherington at the Isle of Wight Crown Court this morning (Tuesday).
The court heard how the Ryde man’s house was raided by Police and computer equipment seized. On the hard drives they found 583 Category A, 1,087 Category B and 1,862 category C indecent images. There were a further 1,789 prohibited images of children (animated) and 65 extreme pornographic images – bringing the total to 5,386 illegal images. A powerpoint presentation on how to abuse children – and cover it up – was also found by detectives.
Isle of Wight Crown Court heard from defence lawyers how Jamie Downing is ‘disgusted with himself’ over the situation.
Judge Roger Hetherington handed Downing a 12 month prison term.
