UPDATED: The Met Office are warning that there is the potential for very strong winds of over 80mph on Friday, which could lead to travel disruption.
Gusts of 60 to 70 mph are expected in places across the country with perhaps over 80mph gusts in exposed coastal areas, including here on the Isle of Wight.
Forecasters say that if such winds are to occur, damage to trees and buildings is possible, as well as disruption to power supplies and travel.
There remains considerable uncertainty around the developments but spells of wet and windy weather will be affecting many areas later this week.
UPDATE THURSDAY – The Met Office have refined the warning and say that the adverse weather is to be expected between 11:00 on Friday and 03:00 on Saturday.
50 to 60 mph gusts are expected with isolated gusts to 70 mph, possibly even 80mph.
UPDATE FRIDAY – The Met Office now say the warning is in place until 23:45 tonight, with isolated gusts now up to 70mph.
