Newport and Carisbrooke Parish Council has organised a public meeting to discuss the Island Planning Strategy Review under which it is proposed to build extra 3,695 houses in Newport and Carisbrooke over the next 15 years.
Some 38% of the total allocation for the Island has been earmarked for the Newport area and if new garden village numbers and windfall sites are excluded the percentage figure rises to 47%.
The meeting, chaired by Councillor Julie Jones-Evans, will take place on Monday 2nd September 2019 in the Trafalgar Room at The Riverside Centre, Newport commencing at 19:00.
Bob Seely MP and Councillor Barry Abraham, the Isle of Wight Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, will be attending the meeting and will be giving their views.
More importantly, however, this will be an opportunity for the residents of Newport and Carisbrooke to have their say on future planning proposals for the parish.

Second homes……Gentrification, full stop! Happening all over the country.
All this vast amount of houses is not necessary – there is not enough infrastructure on the island to support all this new housing. The logic would be to highlight the amount of homeless on the island and build for only them.
If the plan is to build to encourage more people to move here then it is totally wrong.
If someone desperately needs to move to the island then they can buy what is already available. Houses should not be built for social for mainland people to move here.
I have seen adverts offering social housing here as far away as Manchester! Yet we have people here in bed and breakfast.
Our MP needs to take up the running on this?!
Don’t worry Penny, the housing will be second homes, so no employment needed, eventually this route always lead to ghost towns, look at the south west of our sad country for proof!
