Quarr Abbey Art Gallery is now showing distinctive, handmade and hand-carved studio ceramics, ceramic wall panels and painted wall art by Island artist Andrew Dowden.

Andrew draws inspiration for his work from many sources including: archaeology, architecture, machinery, engineering and nature.

The wheel is central to the work from which many forms develop, including composite slab-built pieces. Using a limited glaze palette, he strives to achieve complementary forms and surface textures, hand-carving and form are his primary interests, the colour of the clay body being integral to the surface design.

The exhibition runs from 5th-10th September between 10:00-17:00. Entry to the exhibition, abbey and grounds is free.

Andrew will be in attendance at the exhibition and will be happy to discuss his work. All pieces are for sale and Quarr Abbey, a registered charity, will receive a percentage of all exhibition sales.

Gosh I hope I can fight my way through the undoubted crowds to see such.
