KFC’s brand new drive-thru restaurant in Lake has officially opened following a ribbon cutting ceremony this lunchtime (Wednesday).

The store at Merrie Farm Park off Newport Road is now welcoming customers both in store and through the drive-thru – the only such convenience outside of Ryde and Newport. It is open 7 days a week between 11:00 and 23:00.

Local dignitaries from Lake Parish Council marked the start of the fast food operation at midday as eager customers queued up outside to get their hands on Bargain Buckets.

Over 60 full-time and part-time jobs have been created in the area thanks to this new investment by franchisee Amsric Foods Ltd.

The new store is the first of its kind in the UK with a barn style appearence

Until now the only place for Islanders to get their KFC fix was at Furrlongs in Newport. A second store in Union Street, Ryde closed back in December 2012.

It was almost 3 years ago that Island Echo exclusively revealed that the global fast food chain intended to open a restaurant in Lake, which sits between the towns of Sandown and Shanklin.
