A call has gone out to hear from Island residents who can play a part in designing better mental health care.
The Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Isle of Wight Council and the voluntary sector have been working together to develop a vision of mental health care on the Island which will be more effective in maintaining wellbeing and helping people back to health.
The organisations now want to further involve anyone who can provide an insight, in particular those who may have used the services, or have had indirect experience through family and friends.
As well as hearing from people as a one-off, we would particularly value those who can contribute on a long-term basis to shape this work. Involvement could include anything from attending regular meetings to providing comment, by phone or email on particular proposals.
Gillian Baker, the CCG’s director for strategy and partnerships and the lead for the mental health transformation programme across all the organisations involved, said:
“For some people on the Island, their experience of mental health services has not been good enough. We know that, and we want to make changes for the better.
“We want to build a network of people who can help to ensure that we hear the perspective of people who use our services, as we work to improve services. We want to make sure people are at the heart of the work we are doing. Working with people who have experience of mental health care will help to produce better, more effective services.”
The draft blueprint for mental health was published at the start of January, and people can give their feedback until 31st March 2018.
