Isle of Wight residents are being reminded to spring into action and renew their subscription for the Isle of Wight Council’s garden waste collection service which runs from 1st April 2019 to 31st March 2020.
There is no automatic renewal for this service, so if you want to continue receiving your garden waste collection from your home for the next year, you will need to subscribe again at www.iwight.com/GreenGardenWaste.
The optional fortnightly scheme will allow householders to subscribe online for a 240-litre wheeled bin or 3 hessian sacks to be picked up from the kerbside from the kerbside at total cost of £60 per year, working out at just over £1 a week.
Councillor Michael Murwill, Cabinet member for waste management, has said:
“Let us continue making your gardening life easier by re-subscribing for your garden waste collection this year. Picked up from your doorstep, it takes the hassle out of putting heavy wet garden waste in your boot and making trips to the waste centre to dispose of it”.
Principal manager of waste and recycling, Natasha Dix, said:
“Following an incredibly successful first year, we are encouraging more residents to save time on their trips to the tip by signing up again. All garden waste collected is composted locally here on the Island and contributes to our national recycling targets.
“If you haven’t subscribed before but aren’t sure if you will generate enough garden waste to warrant the subscription, you can always sign up first and then share the cost and load with your neighbour. Alternatively, composting at home is always a low carbon option that is great for your veg patch.”

The council will accept all garden waste such as leaves, grass cuttings and sticks. Please no logs, rubble or soil.
In order to book this, you can sign up to an online iwight account, if you do not have one already, at the following link https://www.iwight.com/MyAccount/SignUp.aspx with a valid email address. If you do not have an email address, call the contact centre on 01983 823777, with your credit or debit card ready.
The subscription will run from 1st April to 31st March each year, apart from the initial registration period.
If you are signing up for the first time, your bin/ sacks will be delivered within 14 days, with the annual service beginning 1st April.
