Having raised the £85,000 needed to create the Island’s new cancer support centre, the charity now needs the final £15,000 to kit it out.
Via the Wessex Wish List, Islanders can donate money for a specific item needed in the new centre, from soft furnishings to therapy beds and everything in between.
Community Engagement Manager Lorraine White said:
“To have reached the point where we now need equipment to bring the new centre to life is amazing.
“With the support of the Isle of Wight community, we have managed to raise a massive £85,000 in nine months and we’re so excited to get work under way.
“We felt the Wessex Wish List was a great way for the community to leave a lasting mark on the new centre they’ve helped to create and we’re sure the generosity of Islanders will help us across the finishing line.
“Thank you to everyone for your continued support – it will be worth it.”
The appeal will close at the end of March and it is hoped work to create the new centre, in Newport’s Lugley Street, will begin in May.
The work will enable the charity to continue providing free services, such as professional counselling and complementary therapies, for Islanders affected by cancer for many years to come. It will also provide a new area for groups to meet, more flexible space for new classes and activities and the creation of three new treatment rooms.
“Every penny counts and Islanders can sponsor items worth as little or as much as they can afford.
“What we’d really love is for individuals, businesses, schools and other Island organisations to host their own events to help fund an item from our wish list.
“Whether it’s a cake sale, sponsored challenge or dress-down day, your involvement will ensure the appeal is a real community effort right to the very end.
“What’s more, those who manage to donate £500 or more will be entitled to a named brick on a wall in the new centre, highlighting their contribution to what has been an amazing appeal.”
