A major reconstruction and resurfacing scheme is to get underway in Ryde this month, resulting in the closure of Park Road for a period of up to 8 weeks.
The bumpy road, which runs parallel to St John’s Hill, is set to be closed from its junctions with Monkton Street and High Street between Friday 8th March and Friday 3rd May. The closure will be in force both night and day.
Works will be phased so that the High Street is assessable via Star Street for the maximum duration possible and will be signed locally as the works progress. The alternative route will be signposted locally.
Side roads off of St John’s and Park Road are set to become 2-way with passing points installed.
The closure will impact on a number of Southern Vectis bus routes, namely the 2, 3 and 8. The bus operator are yet to advise on the revised direction of travel.
Keith Gourlay, Island Roads construction manager said:
“Residents will be well aware that these roads are in need of an upgrade. However, it is impossible to undertake projects of this scale and nature without some localised disruption and we hope that residents feel the short-term inconvenience will be outweighed by the long-term benefits of this upgrade.
“We would like to thank them in advance for their understanding and co-operation.”
