Motorists are to face a further 5 weeks of travel disruption as Southern Water plan to close Ashey Road in Ryde once again.
The busy road in and out of the town re-opened under 2-way temporary traffic lights on Friday, as planned, but the water company have confirmed that a road closure will be put in place again on 9th April. This time the road will be closed for a 5 week stint to allow the installation of the final length of pipe.
Since November last year Southern Water have been replacing a water main between East Ashey Lane in Brading and Argyll Street in Ryde. This work has forced the closure of Ashey Road is one area or another for the past 4 months.
A spokesperson for Southern Water has said:
“While we’ve been working in the area we’ve identified an additional 600 metres of water main that is in need of replacement.
“To avoid the need for future disruption we’ve incorporated this additional work into our current programme.
“This means that we will be working for longer than originally planned, but we’ll be working hard to get the work completed as quickly as we can, and we apologise for any inconvenience this will cause.
“We thank everyone for their continued patience while we carry out this vital work”.
