A 9-year-old boy has been caught with a penknife at a primary school near Ryde.
Staff at Binstead Primary School were alerted to the situation recently when the child – who is below the age of criminal responsibility – started flashing the potentially dangerous bladed article to fellow school mates.
Parents have raised concerns with the school’s headteacher about the safety of pupils at the school.
A spokesperson for Binstead Primary has said in a statement:
“A pupil recently brought a small penknife into school and upon its discovery the matter was dealt with swiftly, appropriately and proportionately in line with the school behaviour policy and advice from the local authority.
“There was no harm to anyone arising out of the matter. We have reassured the specific class in question. The school continues to be a safe environment”.
