Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club travelled to Southampton for the Coastal Head of the River Race, hosted by Southampton Amateur Rowing Club, earlier this month.
The club had another successful regatta, coming away with 2 wins – the Men’s Junior Four and the Women’s J16 Quad.
The Men’s Junior Four of George Glenister, Jamie Gamble, Riley Horrix, Ethan Walters – with Emily Faithfull as cox – won their event by over 20 seconds, while the Women’s Quad of Kaleigh Batchelor, Lottie Tapsell, Rachael Debenham, Yasmin Wright and Daisy Faithfull (cox) won their event by over 1 minute.
Shanklin’s Men’s Novice Four of Kev Faithfull, Andrew Tapsell, Thomas Ashley, Owen Denness – and Lesley Walters (cox) – came 8th amongst strong competition, gaining invaluable experience that they can push on from in the upcoming season.
In the Women’s Novice Four, Shanklin finished 2nd, a solid performance from the crew of Kaleigh Batchelor, Lottie Tapsell, Mia Phelan, Sophie Atkin and Emily Faithfull (cox).
Shanklin also had 3 athletes competing in the Men’s J16 Quad event. Ethan and Riley teamed up with Itchen Imperial, whilst Owen Denness was in the Herne Bay boat, that won the event by 10 seconds over the Shanklin and Itchen composite.
SSRC are now back to preparation for the Junior Inter Regional Regatta in Peterborough on the 27th April.
