It has been announced that The King Lud in Ryde is to close its doors once again, but locals are being told that the closure isn’t for good.
Time was called on the Esplanade pub back in October last year when it was decided that things couldn’t continue as they were.
Just weeks later the pub re-opened with a temporary management team, but it has been confirmed this afternoon (Saturday) that the doors will be closed and locked at the end of the night on Thursday 24th January.
The King Lud will be undergoing a full refurbishment by the brewery and will re-open as a ‘craft pub’ with new managers from the mainland at the helm. However, this throws doubt over the future of The Lud as a live music venue.
In a post made on their Facebook page, The King Lud have said:
“A massive thank you to Ross and Kelly who stepped in to re-open The King Lud after its abrupt closure back in October.
“We all knew it was temporary but the brief re-opening was a welcome relief for many, especially the Luddites who felt the shockwaves of its sudden closure more than most and who see the Lud as their second home and the place they feel safe. Not only that but Ross and Kelly haven given all the ample notice to be ready for the Lud’s closure, and with it the opportunity for the customers and staff to say a fond farewell to the Lud as we know it and send her off in style”.
