27-year-old Samara Glover, who is accused of murdering toddler Jayla-Jean McLaren, will appear in court on the mainland this morning (Friday).
Glover, of Dairy Crest Drive in Newport, is set to appear before Southampton Magistrates’ Court having been remanded overnight following a charge of murder, laid by the Crown Prosecution Service yesterday, as first reported by Island Echo.
The Isle of Wight woman is accused of killing 17-month-old Jayla-Jean following an incident last August.
It was early on Friday 1st August that the young child was rushed from her home on Dairy Crest Drive to St Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries, later being transferred to Southampton General Hospital by air for specialist treatment.
Tragically, despite the best efforts of all involved, the youngster died in hospital on Sunday 3rd August due to serious head injuries, sparking an outpour of emotion from the local community.
Samara Glover was initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, alongside a 31-year-old male who had caring responsibility for Jayla-Jean. The pair were later re-arrested on suspicion of murder.
Glover was further arrested earlier this week and, following hours of questioning, was charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child last night (Thursday).
She is expected to appear in court for just a few minutes later this morning, with the case set to be sent up to the Crown Court.
The 31-year-old man, also from Newport, who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and causing assault/ill treatment/neglect/abandonment of child/young person to cause unnecessary suffering/injury, has been bailed with conditions until Monday 27th April.
