Clinton Cards, which has been a firm favourite on Ryde’s High Street for over 15 years, has closed.
The store was best known for selling a variety of cards, gift wrap and other novelty items as part of a nationwide brand, although the Ryde store had not been modernised to the new branding of ‘Clintons’.
A sign in the window reads: ‘Thank you for your custom. Sorry this store is now closed’.
In recent years it has gone up against The Card Factory in Ryde but it’s thought that increased rent on the premises has led to the closure. The building is now undergoing repair work and is on the market for £32,000 per annum.
Last year it was reported nationally that the American owners of Clintons were looking at closing a number of stores and ones like Ryde, which had not been updated in several years, were subject to a ‘ongoing strategic review’.
Clintons in Newport remains open.
