Island motocross rider Mitch Young has been placed 8th in the country following a successful MX Nationals season in the British Expert Rankings.

It was a welcome result for 24-year-old Mitch, who has had a tough year. He has clawed his way up the rankings following a crash early on in the season where he dislocated his shoulder.

Mitch is currently preparing for the Bridgestone British Masters, for which he has been granted a wildcard entry. The race takes place at Cusses Gorse, near Salisbury on 15th and 16th September.

Mitch said:

“I exceeded all expectations by finishing top ten in the MX Nationals this year, it was a great result and something I am really proud of.

“I’m really pleased to have been granted a wild card entry for the British Masters, it’s a great opportunity for me and I’m really hoping for a top five finish.”

This winter Mitch will attend training camps in Spain and Belgium to help prepare him for the 2019 British Championship season, where he is aiming for a top 5 ranking.

Mitch is part of the Talented Athlete scheme run by the Isle of Wight Council, supported by Wightlink which provides discounted ferry travel to help athletes attend mainland training and events.
