MCDONALDS EVACUATED FOLLOWING DRIVE-THRU CAR FIRE

mcdonaldsdrivethrucarfireUPDATED WITH VIDEO: McDonalds in Ryde has been evacuated this afternoon (Thursday) following a car fire just metres from the building.

Firefighters from Ryde were called to the scene at McDonald’s drive-thru on Brading Road at just before 16:25 after a classic Mk2 VW Golf burst into flames.

The vehicle started smoking whilst at the collection window but quick thinking onlookers managed to move the car away from the single-storey building before the fire took hold.

Staff and customers at the popular restaurant were evacuated to safety.

The driver of the car has escaped injury.

UPDATED: The fire has been extinguished and crews have left the scene.
