Wight Tri member and Wightlink-supported Isle of Wight Talented Athlete, Liz Dunlop, rounded off her season with a 2nd place finish in her age category at the Ironman 70.3 Turkey, held in Belek near Antalya.

As this hosted slots for the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Nice, it was well loaded with talented triathletes, with over 1,700 taking part.

Liz started well, exiting the sea in 35:23 – a personal best swim time for this distance and 1st in her age group.

Another PB fast bike split of 2:49:33 for the 2-lap course saw Liz exit T2 almost 4 minutes ahead of her nearest competitor.

However, even with a solid run and personal best time of 2:05:49, Liz was overtaken around half way.

Liz was still delighted with her performance, posting an overall time of 5:40:03 and 2nd in the 60-64 category, in only her 2nd 70.3 Ironman Distance.

Even though she missed out in the World Championship qualification slot, as only 1 is given for this age category, she couldn’t be disappointed.
