Isle of Wight swimmer Jenny Ball has been crowned European Champion in the 80-84 category of the 3k open water swim following a fantastic win at the European Master Championships in Slovenia.

The weather at the end of August was hot and sunny and Lake Bled glistened invitingly. The favourable conditions, alongside a well marked course, helped guide Jenny to take the win and ultimately the European title.

The Islander also achieved a Silver in the 800m and Bronze medals in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyles and 100m backstroke in an open air pool in Kranj.

Later this week (22nd September) Jenny shall be swimming 1 mile in the Serpentine Swim at London’s Hyde Park. For the second year running she has gained a charity place for Age Related Macular Degeneration. The sponsorship target is £350.

Next month it will be back to pool competitions with the Swim England National Masters at Sheffield.

Jenny Ball is part of the Talented Athletes scheme and is therefore provided with discounted travel by Wightlink to help attend mainland events and training.
