Hopes of a white Christmas have been well and truly put to bed as local forecasters IW Met Service predict a dry and potentially sunny Christmas Day.
Today will be a fairly mild, overcast day with hill fog and occasional light rain and drizzle across the most of the Isle of Wight. Temperatures are expected to peak at 12c with wind WSW at 26mph, gusting to 35mph before dropping to 20-29mph.
Tomorrow (Christmas Eve) will see a cloudy start with perhaps a little light rain but as the day goes on some colder and dryer air will push in as the winds turn in to the east. This will allow some sunny spells to develop.
Islanders can expect a fairly mild day with temperatures reaching a high of 8c to 9c. The wind will be ENE 16-23mph. Just 0.5mm of rain is expected.
Christmas Day may not be dry in many households, but the weather will certainly be holding off. A rain-free day with some possible low cloud is expected on Tuesday. The low cloud will break to give some sunny spells, although there is a risk of coastal and hill fog developing, especially later in the day and overnight.
It will be a slightly colder day with the temperature peaking at 8c. Wind will be SE 9-14mph becoming 6-11mph but lighter away from windward coasts.
Boxing Day will be much the same as Tuesday with areas of low cloud at times, as well as mist and fog patches. Starting to feel a little more chilly with mostly light winds.
