Sandown Bay’s Hullabaloo, a 2-day grand celebration of discovery and exploration, fun and wonder, is back for all to enjoy on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May.
The annual event is an unmissable mix of science, nature, art, live music and madcap carnival, as well as seaside tradition. Discover the amazing world of natural science on your doorstep, meet the makers and inventors, brush up your circus skills and join the workshops and parades – all for free!
Transforming an area the size of a theme park, Hullabaloo stretches across Culver Parade, from the beach to the Willow Walk, Dinosaur Isle and Browns.
New for Hullabaloo 2019 is Cardboard Wars. Pick your tribe – Fire or Ice – transform yourself into a cardboard Knight and then join the Battle for Sandown Bay at 14:00 on Sunday 12th. There’ll be workshops each morning to help you make your own cardboard armour ready for the off. Excellent prizes up for grabs too…
International artist, Katie Paterson, has selected the Isle of Wight’s very own ‘Science Beach’ in Sandown as the fifth venue for her fascinating touring participatory artwork ‘First There is a Mountain’. Timed to coincide with Hullabaloo and hosted by Quay Arts, Hullabaloo beach-goers will help make global mountain ranges, micro-geologies that wash away with the tide – a reminder of coastal climate change.

“Hullabaloo has become one of the biggest free art, science and nature celebrations by a local community in the country. We’re as happy as winkles in a rockpool that First There Is a Mountain will be joining us too.
“The international spotlight has well and truly turned towards Sandown Bay and it’s fitting that such a prestigious touring art project should want to come and celebrate with us. This is third year of Hullabaloo and of course, now it’s all taking place on Britain’s Best Beach! Thanks to everyone who’s helping make it a real Sandown Bay spectacular.”
