A free, family-friendly arts and countryside festival, encouraging people to get outdoors and explore the local environment, returns to the Riverbank near Sandown this May Day Bank Holiday.
Organised by New Carnival Company (NCC), ‘All Along the Riverbank’ will feature art installations, Morris dancing, folk music, storytelling, guided walks, teas, licensed refreshments, barbecue and the special Green Man of Alverstone.
There will also be a range of fun activities, crafts and information provided by partners from local environmental and community organisations along the route.
NCC ‘s creative director, Frankie Goldspink, said:
“All Along the Riverbank is the culmination of a three month programme of creative arts workshops and expert-led site visits. School and community groups have created fantastic temporary art installations and informative interpretation boards for this special day.”
All Along the Riverbank takes place for the third year running on May Day bank holiday (Monday 6th May), over the 2 mile stretch of cycle track running alongside the River Yar between Sandown and Newchurch.
Walk, cycle or ride the trail at your own pace between 11:00 and 16:00, and enjoy the abundance of plants, wildlife, social history, rich archaeological finds, woodland and marsh nature reserve in this beautiful area.
The event is organised by the New Carnival Company (NCC), and supported by partners within the East Wight Landscape Project called Down to the Coast.
