FIRE SERVICE AND COASTGUARD CALLED TO YARMOUTH HARBOUR


yarmouthrnlisunafternoonlifeboatUPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and HM Coastguard are attending the quayside at Yarmouth Harbour this evening (Saturday), where Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat is understood to be assisting a boat.

Fire crews from Newport and Yarmouth are on the scene alongside The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team and a fire officer. It follows a request by Solent Coastguard for Yarmouth RNLI to launch at 17:22.

It is thought a vessel has declared a fire on board.

UPDATE @ 20:20 – It has been confirmed that emergency services were alerted to a suspected fire on board a 40ft motorboat to the north east of Hurst Light at shortly before 17:20.

The volunteer lifeboat crew of Yarmouth RNLI activated the boat’s on board fire extinguisher system before towing the vessel to Yarmouth Harbour, where the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire had been fully extinguished.

The vessel is to remain on a buoy outside the harbour for the night.

The incident has been brought to a close.
