The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and Yarmouth RNLI have responded to a fire on board a Sunseeker motor yacht just off Yarmouth this afternoon (Monday).
Solent Coastguard were alerted to smoke billowing from the luxury vessel with 6 persons on board at around 14:20, prompting the tasking of Yarmouth RNLI’s all weather lifeboat, The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team and Cowes RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, which was already afloat undertaking training.
Firefighters from Newport and Freshwater were transferred by a local boat to rendezvous with the Sunseeker, however the fire was extinguished by the casualty vessel’s on board firefighting equipment.
Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat stood by throughout the incident and has since returned to station.
Thankfully, the 6 persons on board the motor yacht were taken to safety by a passing boat.
