56-year-old yacht owner Peter Jackson has told The Sun newspaper how he was almost ‘crushed to death’ by the Red Funnel ferry in a collision off Calshot back in September.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services swung into action on the afternoon of 29th September when the Red Falcon made contact with a 33ft motorboat ‘Phoenix’ off Calshot Spit. The damaged boat managed to limp back to Cowes Harbour where it was met by The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team.
“It sounded like a bazooka shell had hit us… we were bounced down the side of the hull towards the propellers. Only the radar arch over the yacht stopped us from being dragged under.
“My wife and a passenger suffered head injuries. We’ve been signed off work and all realise we’re lucky to be alive”.
The Jackson family are said to be looking at taking legal action against Red Funnel as they state that the ferry operator is refusing to accept full liability.
Red Funnel have not commented on the crash with Phoenix.
