UPDATED: Firefighters tackled a car fire on the outskirts of Brading last night (Thursday), leading to officers from Hampshire Constabulary to be called in.
One pumping appliance from Ryde Fire Station turned out to the scene on West Lane between Ashey and Brading just before 22:45 yesterday evening, after a member of the public discovered the vehicle ablaze in a lay-by.
A White Ford Escort Mk5 has been completely gutted in the inferno, which reached temperatures so hot the vehicle’s glass melted to the metal work.
Retained firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service used breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire before leaving the scene an hour later.
Police are looking into the incident to establish any suspicious circumstances.
