Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team rider Matt Allsopp lined up in the E12 race at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth recently, again with a full field of riders.

From the start the race was fast paced averaging 30mph with a few attacks. Allsopp managed to get away initially with another rider, but this soon turned into a group of 8 with a clear gap from the main bunch for 10-15 minutes. This remained the case until a few riders started to fade and miss turns, slowing the group up. It was unfortunately caught and while Allsopp got swallowed up by the main bunch another group soon formed.

Allsopp was not well positioned and never made it across in time. There were some strong riders in the new break and team riders slowing the chasing bunch down so they managed to stayed away. Allsopp finished his race in a bunch sprint just out of points.

Meanwhile in 3rd Cat, Clint Oliver made his debut race at the Wednesday evening Portsmouth Circuits.

The race started at a very quick pace with many attacks from the off. After 15 mins Clint Oliver made a break which unfortunately didn’t stick then to find himself settling back in the peloton.

The race came down to the final lap which ended in the usual sprint with Clint Oliver just outside the top 10.
