Tributes have tonight been paid to 17-month-old Jayla-Jean McLaren, who died from serious injuries at the weekend, with a special memorial gathering held in Newport this evening (Thursday).
The youngster was rushed to St Mary’s emergency department in a serious condition early on Friday morning following an alleged assault at her home address on Dairy Crest Drive in Newport, as reported by Island Echo.
Jayla was later flown to Southampton General Hospital for specialist treatment, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday afternoon.
Those who knew Jayla – and the wider community – gathered at Church Litten in Newport earlier this evening to lay flowers in memory of the youngster.
Her family have now paid the following tribute to her:
“Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess.”
A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested on Friday night on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The couple – Jayla’s guardians but not biological parents – have been released on conditional bail until 1st November.
Detective Superintendent Rod Kenny said:
“First and foremost, our thoughts remain with all who knew and loved Jayla-Jean.
“We know emotions are understandably high in the local community following news of this devastating incident.
“I want to reassure the community that our investigation remains ongoing, and we are working tirelessly to establish the full facts surrounding Jayla-Jean’s death.
“While we understand the community concern, we urge people not to speculate on the circumstances as this will cause further distress to those who knew Jayla-Jean and could impede the ongoing police investigation.
“We will provide further updates as soon as we are able to.”

What social worker took this child away from the biological parents and put her in this home they “Deemed” safe with guardians.
I agree with this comment. So many children are put in foster care and adoptive homes but all you seem to hear lately is how these “trusted people” have physically mentally and abusively attacked these children.

I assume that there will be an investigation into the poor judgement of this awful situation. The child was handed back to another member of the same family. However, please do not encourage Igotitall in targeting professional foster carers. I, like so many others, would have given anything to be able to protect this vulnerable little one. While others just talk about it, this is what foster carers do.
At no point did the teller talk about foster carers he is clearly talking about the social worker in this situation whom very clearly did not spend enough time with these guardians! Social services do not always do a good job kids get mistreated all the time im speaking as a parent of a teen who needed to be in foster care as they were a danger to their siblings due to sever mental health my child was passed from pillar to post and so much damage was caused by the system that they attempted suicide multiple times as social services do not listen to the parent who’s been there and knows the child and then they dump kids with who ever can take them even if not trained to look after children with more extreme needs leaving g the child failing education, relationships and life in general social services have an awful lot to answer for

We have stood up to Social Services on many occasions when stupid red tape has over-ruled common sense, and the children are almost always the innocent victims. Sadly the system is still letting too many kids down.
Sorry my love i must of replied to wrong comme t these social workers need to be held responsible for the damage they cause, it should be 3rd party liability their decision is what ultimately put this baby in this situation to be abused and murdered, unfortunately unlike the police social services dont have to have physical proof they just work on probability so for example if you are accused of a crime by the police but they have no evidence it becomes no further action especially if false accusations let’s say by disgruntled ex but that same ex can then say well it was domestic violence get a social worker to go well the accusation was there so it could be true and kids get taken just in case the only ones who lose here are the children in a corrupt system it’s insane
The teller made this comment about guardians. As a loving foster carer, your comments are deeply offensive. You are using this tragic event to criticise those who willingly take in other peoples children and give them love and care 24/7.

Someone of authority is to blame here who f***ed up big time time placing her in a position of risk, probably someone who knew sod all about child care or had any knowledge regarding it is to blame for this.
