Councillor Joe Robertson has tendered his resignation as Leader of the Conservative Group on the Isle of Wight Council, it has been announced.
Just over 2 weeks ago Joe Robertson was chosen by local Conservative members to stand for MP in the new Isle of Wight East constituency for whenever the next General Election is called.
With this in mind, Cllr Robertson says he now wants to channel all of his time and efforts to campaigning on the issues that matter most to residents in the East Wight, such as delivering more affordable housing, investing in jobs and opportunities, tackling anti-social behaviour and achieving better health and social care support.
In a statement, Joe has today (Thursday), said:
“It has been a privilege to lead the largest group on the Council and work cross-party where there have been opportunities to do so. I will continue in my role as Chair of Corporate Scrutiny Committee – a position elected by Full Council – and as a member of the Health and Social Care Policy and Scrutiny Committee”.
The Conservative Group will elect a new Leader in the coming days. In the meantime, Councillor Paul Brading will act as interim Leader.
Given all the lies, deceit and chaotic misery inflicted over the last 13 years by a tissue of Tory administrations, I trust that all Isle of Wight East constituents will have enough common sense to elect anyone at all other than a Conservative in the next General Election.
Would be nice but we don’t have a fair voting system. Also, too many people think voting Con makes them middle class. (I am not kidding, they do)
The Tories are DELIBERATELY going to loose the next general election to then allow Labour in, knowing they will fully trash the economy THEN and only then The Tories will ride to the rescue BUT only with a NEW DEAL with the EU. Which will resemble the PRE LEAVING deal in every way but without actually rejoining.
British politics are less important than what the world demands. Watch and learn and remember where you heard this first
The conservatives winning the next general election? Not a cat in hells chance. 2 Tory candidates winning on the island? Zero chance. They’re done, finished, washed up and the people have had enough. Bad luck Tory Boy.

Don’t forget, for one moment, Dave G that a typical Island voter would elect a cockroach if it called itself a Conservative Cockroach and sported a blue rosette.
Do you want to bet on that Dave G? History over the last century shows that this country usually has a Conservative government. The people of this country are easily swayed and will be again just as usual. The fear of Labour and high taxes, as well as more immigration will be enough to convince most. Clearly, the Conservative majority on the island is vast and it would take a miracle for them to lose. Not remotely likely. Fancy that bet?
Except we currently have record legal immigration, record illegal immigration and the highest levels of overall taxation on record.
But they will still try to convince us that the Labour are the “tax and spend”.
And the gullible will read their Daily Mails and believe every word.

It is quite sad that i cannot think of one thing whilst we had a Conservative government they have done
that has benefited us.
