East Wight Primary has announced that Vix Lowthion, Green Party candidate for the Isle of Wight East, has been declared the ‘People’s Champion’ after over 876 local electors took part in the group’s online vote. The group believes this ground-breaking, people-powered and locally organised tactical voting project is the best chance for all of those who do not want to be represented by another Conservative. The single transferable vote system was used in the secure online poll. 976 local electors registered for our vote and 879 voted. Vix won the vote with 53% of first preference votes. This is the 2nd considerable victory for Lowthion after she came out on top in the exit poll conducted at the Island Echo/IW Observer Isle of Wight East election hustings event held earlier this week. Standing to become the first MP of Isle of Wight East are; Emily Brothers (Labour), David Groocock (Independent), Michael Lilley (Liberal Democrat), Vix Lowthion (Green), Sarah Morris (Reform UK) and Joe Robertson (Conservative). In response to the news, People’s Champion Vix Lowthion said:
“This is incredibly exciting news! We have got a real opportunity to bring change to Isle of Wight East and the country as a whole. To receive support from so many Islanders through the East Wight Primary is truly humbling – the hard work really starts now. We really can do this!”
Co-founders Charity Garnett and Mobes O’Flynn have said:
“We believe that local people with knowledge of the Island and the candidates are best placed to choose our best tactical bet. If we want representation, under our current voting system we have to get together to get it, or our votes split and the Conservatives will win here. As a brand new constituency, we have a chance to do something different, and we encourage all East Wighters who would prefer not to send another Conservative to Westminster to unite behind Vix Lowthion” “Thank you to all our supporters for getting us this far. As well as having chosen the People’s Champion in Vix, we have also created hundreds of local champions for tactical voting. You are our greatest resource and now our work really begins! Please join our mailing list at www.eastwightprimary.org for updates on how we can get the people’s champion elected, and this time, get an MP that shares our values. “We would also like to thank Emily Brothers and Michael Lilley and their teams for the constructive way that they have carried out their campaigns. We know the real problem in our democracy is our voting system, which means we have to vote tactically, and we are sorry that everyone can’t just pick their preferred candidate and have their vote count. We wish them well with their campaigns.”
If anyone would like to help make history in East Wight, they are encouraged to email [email protected]. Commenting on the East Wight Primary Result, the Isle of Wight Liberal Democrats have said:
“Liberal Democrat policy was clear that we could not take part in ‘Primaries’ such as East Wight Primary. We understand the Labour Party took the same position. Those who voted in the primary process are, naturally, self-selecting and so aren’t statistically representative as would be got with an opinion poll carried out by a professional polling company. “In the last year, 2 council by-elections took place in the constituency with real votes in ballot boxes. These gave the Lib Dems 37% of the votes to 34% to the Conservatives, 15% for Labour and 3% for Green. We believe that this shows that the Lib Dem message of fairness for the Island is winning support across the constituency and that we are clearly challenging the Conservative Party. “We will continue to campaign hard on our fairness message right through to polling day.”

It is now confirmed the population of the Isle of Wight are suffering from some sort of mental deficiency which is more prevalent in the east..
The whole thing is bobbins. The real political parties did not participate in this nonsense.
Vote Labour to end the madness and get rid of this utterly corrupt and self-serving Tory party.
Peter, are you on drugs? Labour was at the meeting. I was there and I was surprised how well received the Greens were. Vix is the real deal. Has my vote.
Maybe try reading the article fred:
“Liberal Democrat policy was clear that we could not take part in ‘Primaries’ such as East Wight Primary. We understand the Labour Party took the same position.”
East Wight Primary is obviously being run by Greens or they have hijacked it. Labour will win. Vote Labour.
HI Peter, West Side labour are totally the tactical choice, Richard Quigley is a great candidate. East side with almost all new candidates its been difficult to figure out who the best tactical vote is. That is why we set up the East Wight primary as the fairest way for those of use who don’t want the conservatives or their close cousins, Reform to represent us. Green’s won our vote as best tactical choice so we encourage everyone who wants Tories out to vote for Vix. Labour will win nationally, and hopefully in the west, but east side if we don’t want Joe Robertson, voting together for a candidate who will stand up for the island, is our best option
I don’t trust Victoria Lowthion and she won’t get my vote. Labour will win East and West Wight.
Walk around Ryde any day of the week and you can clearly see the 466.
This vote means diddly squat.
imagine if she did win…..a lone Green in Parliament, but with the ambition to turn our island (well, half of it) into another Brighton.
The plan to prevent illegal immigrants arriving on our shores by planting a prickly Gorse hedge and breeding millions of spiny crabs and sword fishes to puncture any inflatable dingy craft has now been deemed impossible.
Vote reform or we will have no future here for our own young in their own country.
Yet a truly never ending amount of people filling this land is costing us all and not just in money or lower living standards than we ought to be enjoying. But more people add to more traffic, more pollution more food needed, more clean water, more sewage, more concreted over countryside.
So WHY don’t ANY party have the guts to say such?
ONLY Reform do so, so vote for them.
Your comments alone are a very good reason not to vote Reform.
At least she might stop the turds being dumped into the sea. With any luck she’d dump them in parliament for us with all the others.
Labour will win, labour will spend other peoples money to the delight of the nere do wells, the money will run out as more imms take from the pot, and we will be so broke that food banks will not just be their cos mothers would rather have false lashes and nails then use their tax credits to feed what they breed, but food banks will be needed as our country is broke.
Seen it before but the dim just see wealth, profit as envy to be wasted on them but in doing so the whole of society collapses.
Watch and learn.OR vote reform to ease the demise.
Labour will take us back into Europe
Less migrants arrived on our shores when we
were in Europe.
That because they hadn’t arrived in Europe then. Rejoin the EU and they will insist that we take more. Just look what is happening in Europe now with the illegal migrants (invaders).
Don’t forget the Tattoo’s, usually they are filled with them
plus they smoke like chimneys and Vape like babies with a dummy
and have children with any Tom, Dick or Harry.
Majority of them never get married, they are just breeding machines.
Bless them
Time for change. Labour will be the better option
Who can trust Farage?
If it means the Tory’s lose then good, but they need to come up with a better candidate than her, given her past dodgy behaviour.
The East Wight primary gave people the chance to choose who was best candidates between labour, Lib Dem and greens and she won our vote. If you really want the Tory’s out, she’s our best hope East Side (Labour best hope west side I think!)
Not the case.
“Liberal Democrat policy was clear that we could not take part in ‘Primaries’ such as East Wight Primary. We understand the Labour Party took the same position.”
Where are the full results of this poll ?
Email us at [email protected] and I can send you a screenshot of the result (it was included in press release – onthewight published the picture)
Vix Lowthion 53%
Emily Brothers 24.2%
Micheal Lilley 22.8%
After second preferences were counted Vix Lowthian had 66% of the vote.
Only these three candidates were included because it was about picking the best one to beat the conservatives, and their close cousins the reform party. Anyone who wants either of those to win will have their say on Election Day, as will we all!
Ah …. 2nd preferences, bit like Ireland holding vote after vote until they got the result they wanted over the EU membership. Desperate organisation run by people who dont like democracy unless of course it agrees with their own views/beliefs.
The Echo is certainly pushing ‘Vix’, isn’t it?
No. It was a fair vote. It was an excellent evening. All but the Labour girl did very well. Did feel like Tories are on the naughty step.

Whether you like Ms Lowthion personally or not, you’ve got to admit her sticking power and persistent banging of the drum for what she (and, perhaps secretly, many of us) believe in.
Caroline Lucas, throughout her parliamentary career a lone Green voice, was arguably the most effective MP in the House.
I believe Vix will be of the same stamp; Wight East doesn’t have a better option.
100% agree. She’s the best option to fight our corner in parliament.
100% disagree. Just out for herself. Being an MP can be very financially rewarding if opportunities are taken.
Turning paper, cardboard and wood into trash electioneering materials, that then get discarded in waste bins doesn’t seem to be very green to me.
More green than granting new oil and gas licences and flying in a private jet though..
I agree. But still not green of itself though.
and your groceries get to Waitrose how, horse & cart?
Her husband owns a mining company !!
Increase our overseas aid from 6 billion to 26 billion. Lower defence budget, increase tax and increase Nat Ins
to start with. What utter rubbish. They keep spouting the same rhetoric with no back up plan. Brighton has been a disaster
The Tories have done the opposite, and where has that got us? The best way to stop Putin from influencing the 3rd world countries and causing hordes off illegals coming here is to invest and improve these countries so people don’t feel the need to come here. And as a bonus we’ll get a safer world and all our money back on our investment. It’s the big brain move.
There is no point investing in third world countries as they are so corrupt the money never get’s to those that need it
Correct the presidents etc who run those countries are some of the richest people on earth, sitting on hoards of gold, diamonds etc.
Pot calling kettle black. Here in the sophisitacted, well-educated West, we are not corrupt are we? (Don’t mention Partygate, Horizon, Owen Patterson, betting on the election date, PPE contracts – oops run out of space!)
So does that mean we should send money to grease the hands of a selfish dictator?
You must remember the cuddly greens are too the left of the communist party.
Just look at their manifesto.
Why do Labour get the Emily Brothers when Reform and the others only get one candidate?
Previously stated that if elected she will support Keir Starmer in parliament … remember that before you waste a vote on her
Oh i do pray this clown will not get elected, if the greens get their way we will be back in the stone age, sorry pre stone age as fires will be banned due to co2 emissions, she is a waste of oxygen.
Looks like the CONS are definitely finished .. about time too ..the hopeless EX MP needs to look at his party and himself .. people have had enough of all the lies and failures .
Apprently not – see above.
who are East Wight Primary? never heard of them. When, how was this vote carried out and advertised, never heard a thing about this either. Advertise it again on a bigger, better read platform and I bet it wouldn’t have the same result.
Been asleep for the last 4 months, Isla?
Just vote in the actual election and ignore this stunt by the Greens. They are just trying to fool you into voting Green.
Is the East Wight ready for a Transexual, blind
lesbian, with a tenuous connection to the Island? I know nobody is saying it out loud but how representative is this individual for the average IOW constituent? I’ve heard them speak and they only talk about Labour National Policy and seem not at all connected to local issues.
nice pic. love child of Borat and Olive from On The Buses. Oh yeah wait a minute… and loon ideologies. Vote Reform. The common sense vote.
The Island will always be Tory.
Only persons living in social housing will be voting
Reform or Labour.
879 people…. come on, give me a break!! This is pointless when you consider the amount of voters.
